Jetwing Surf
PRICE: Affordable
If the sound of crashing waves, thatched bungalows and a barefooted existence appeals then the Jetwing Surf hotel on Pottuvil Point at the northern end of Arugam Bay is right up your beach. Here, you can lead the life of a lazy lounger or a surf bum in style as the Jetwing Surf comes with a generous helping of rustic luxury.
Aside from being on a stunning beach and having a surf break on the doorstep, the Jetwing Surf is a far-flung boutique retreat that has something for every sun worshipper.
Inspired by by the surrounding natural environment, the 20 seashell shaped cabanas are made from local materials and are naturally ventilated to provide the smallest of carbon footprints. They all have indoor and outdoor showers and spacious ocean-facing decks.
If salt in your pores becomes just too tiresome you can always hang out by the infinity pool overlooking the ocean with a coconut cocktail in hand.
The menu at the Jetwing Surf, is typically Jetwing, reliable, extensive and consistently good. You will find a fantastic selection of locally caught fresh seafood, Sri Lankan curries to die for and competently delivered Western dishes.
When it comes to the great outdoors, this Sri Lankan eco lodge is well set up. Not only do they have lifeguards on watch but they have a resident naturalist waiting to show guests the precious coastal ecosystem that surrounds the resort. If you want to float like a lotus, and we aren’t talking about one of the lily ponds set within the pool, there is a yoga teacher on standby.

Don’t let the absence of aircon put you off. There is almost always a cooling sea breeze wafting through the cabanas. And if it needs to be supplemented there are wall mounted fans.
