The views from Madulkelle are spectacular. Take your breath away spectacular. You’ll see majestic mountains, rolling hills, low mist, rippling streams and countless wildlife, such as the occasional deer or giant squirrel.
Madulkelle Tea and Eco Lodge brings a revolutionary and contemporary approach to the traditional warmth and hospitality that Sri Lanka is famous for. Why? The 18 lodges, blending seamlessly with their surroundings, are made of canvas rather than being solid structures. But that doesn’t mean any compromise on quality.
The 18 lodges are spread over a tea plantation, each sitting on its own solid plinth providing privacy and ultimate tranquility. All lodges are made of high quality tarpaulin canvas specially imported from South Africa. This is the very same material used by many world renowned safari camps especially in campsites all over Africa.
Each lodge comes with its own walk-in WC and shower, a splattering of reproduction antiques and campaign furniture in the living area and a huge superking-sized bed. Throw in a couple of hurricane lamps, colourful silk throws and a finely woven woollen rug on the floor and you have real experience on your hands – this is glamping at its very best.
The pool is magnificent and the grounds are extensive.
In keeping with the Madulkelle Tea and Eco Lodge’s environmental credentials, much of the veg is grown in the productive organic gardens, meaning that the food served is exceptionally fresh and tasty. This place will inject you with energy and you’ll leave feeling invigorated.

It’s a pretty remote location so embrace the beautiful countryside. There are some amazing hiking trails which can be guided. If you are feeling adventurous, you can even go on an overnight trek deep into the glorious nature of the Knuckles Mountains.
