Trident Udaipur
PRICE: Affordable
The beauty of staying at the Trident in India’s Udaipur is that you know you’re in safe hands. It is ever reliable and you know exactly what you are going to get. The service will be excellent, the food superb and the standards of cleanliness second to none.
The Trident is located on a former hunting estate of the Maharana of Udaipur on the edge of the modern city. The Trident’s grounds border the shore of Lake Pichola, but lake views from the hotel are distant at best. But this is more than compensated for by magnificent panoramas over the rolling green Aravalli hills.
The rooms are thoughtfully designed using earthy tones, much of the artwork is coloured using vegetable dyes and when it comes to hitting the sack, the ridiculously comfortable beds with duck down pillows and quality linen are a real treat. The bathrooms are liberally fitted out with Udaipur green marble and super soft towels.
The Trident’s common areas hint at the vernacular architecture of Udaipur, whilst the gym overlooks the large rectangular pool, which is a delight.
It has to be noted, however, that the Trident at Udaipur is just like the Tridents elsewhere. Its big, impersonal and doesn’t match some of Yonder’s other choices for opulence and individuality. But the location is brilliant, facilities are wide ranging and its is a superb value-for-money option.
Yonder Insight
The Trident has great kids’ facilities. It's a brilliant place to be based if you are travelling with a family as it's within its own gated grounds with a children’s club and has some interconnecting rooms.
On your doorstep
It’s about a 20-minute drive to the old centre or you can take a boat across the lake from the private pier that the Trident shares with its upmarket sister the Oberoi Udaivilas.
