Trident Chennai
PRICE: Affordable
The Trident is the perfect overnight bolthole when transiting through Chennai, India. It’s just five minutes (depending on the ridiculous Chennai traffic) from the airport and is a haven of tranquility.
As we’ve said before, the Trident chain comes with its highs and lows. Fortunately the former far outweigh the latter, which can be neatly summarised as a shortage of character. However, the hotel is flawlessly managed and the standards are exceptionally high. It is beautifully maintained and richly decorated with marble, giving a sense of class and quality.
The facilities are all encompassing, from a modern and well-equipped gym to a delightful pool area in the gardens. The spa, a treat if arriving after a flight, is run by highly-trained staff who know a thing or two about delivering soothing Indian pressure-point treatments.
The food is expertly prepared in the two restaurants, with a choice of signature South Indian or a la carte European bistro, plus an extensive round-the-world buffet. You won’t be left wanting for anything. The service throughout is impressive, with attention to detail that is so often missing in the sub-continent.
The Trident rooms subscribe to their corporate rulebook: spotless cleanliness, carefully considered rooms with bespoke, built-in furniture to maximise space and small marble lined bathrooms. The linen is excellent and mattresses are super comfortable.
Don’t let the absence of personality be a deterrent. The Trident is brilliant for the purpose it serves. A conveniently located and superb airport hotel that reliably delivers time and time again.
Yonder Insight
The buffet breakfasts at the hotel are extensive and excellently presented. However, if your flight departs too early, the hotel can produce a snack pack on request.
On your doorstep
The airport perimeter is literally a stone's throw from the hotel. On a good run the terminal is five minutes away and in traffic can take up to 30 minutes.
