Six Senses Samui
PRICE: Punchy but doesn’t blow the budget
Six Senses Koh Samui should be a synonym for paradise. It’s not often that we come across a hotel so perfect that we are left stuck for words. It is the embodiment of hideaway perfection. It is beautiful. Utterly captivating, it is a rustic beachside retreat with views that will blow your mind. So whip out your embroidered linen kaftan, don your favourite bikini and those tortoise shell Wayfarers, for you have arrived in the promised land.
This is a place of tranquility and privacy. Each of the 66 villas have been designed to maximise views and minimise intrusion from the outside world. Our favourites are the ocean view pool villas that cascade down the hillside; they are split-level, with the bedroom on the upper deck and the pool lower down, both with magnificent views over the gulf of Siam. But given the awesome infinity pool that seamlessly blends into the turquoise sea and the cobalt sky, it’s honestly no hardship to take an alternative Hideaway villa, which comes with its own private external deck, perfect for lounging around.
All rooms have broadly the same facilities, which will leave you wanting for nothing. And just in case there is a little something you are missing, your GEM (that’s Guest Experience Maker in Six Senses speak, or butler to the rest of us) is just a phone call away.
So what else makes Six Senses Koh Samui so special? For those in the know – and believe it when we say we have eaten at more than our fair share of restaurants on Samui – the dining experience here is amongst the very best. On The Rocks is, well, on the rocks, down by the sea edge. It has stunning views and superb, innovative cuisine to match.
For those that have already stayed at other Six Senses resorts, you’ll know that we’ve left, arguably, the best till last. The Six Senses spas are phenomenal. You’ll be spoilt for choice with therapies delivered by true professionals. Add to this a choice of fabulous venues for your treatments, and you’ll be in awe. And as an important bonus: the hatha yoga and reiki are superb.
Yonder Insight
One of our favorite experiences is an early morning kayak over to the Koh Som, a tiny island a little more than a stone's throw away. The kayaking is great fun and a brilliant substitute for the monotony of the treadmill.
On your doorstep
Samui is a small island so most things are within striking distance. Head over to the next bay and go for a evening stroll with something to eat in one of the many excellent restaurants in Bophut’s Fisherman's Village.
