Sujan Jawai
PRICE: Worth maxing out for
Nestled seamlessly in the sandy grasslands of Rajasthan’s western wilderness, where leopards roam free against a backdrop of formidable granite rock formations, the SUJÁN JAWAI is a masterclass in minimalist elegance.
As we arrived in our wildlife haven, we were greeted by a smiling ranger, equipped with ice bucket and chilled flute of rose lemonade to sip as we watched the desert sunset in front of our stylish tented suite, with its clean, light canvas turned honey-coloured in the golden sunlight.
The camp’s tents are erected in royal Rajputana fashion and feel pristine and fresh, melting into their surroundings with effortless simplicity. The SUJÁN JAWAI absolutely feels part of the landscape and this isn’t by accident.
Its owners have made considerable conservation efforts to protect local wildlife and have worked equally hard to give guests an authentic wilderness experience without compromising on elegance and comfort.
Rooms are stylish and comfortable with private verandas which are the perfect spots to connect with natures. Bathrooms are spacious, showers powerful and the luxury Ayurvedic toiletries to die for.
Rabari herdsmen in traditional scarlet turbans cater for your every need with charm and subtlety, and offer daily hikes and safari Jeep drives, enlivened by a genuine knowledge and passion for ecology, conservation, tradition and culture.
Dining at the SUJÁN JAWAI is, like everything else here, a pure, soothing and unspoiled experience. Set beneath the vast desert sky, a fusion of fresh, seasonal Indian and western dishes and local delicacies form the menu, mostly grown on-site, and the homemade snacks in particular are delicious.
