This collection of islands on the far edge of Asia packs some serious punch in its culture, scenery and history. The first thing you need to know is that Japan is surprisingly big – over a map of Europe it would stretch from the middle of France to Norway. But thanks to the famously fast and efficient railway network, you can fit a lot into a single trip to Japan.
