Samode Haveli
PRICE: Affordable
Bursting with ornate, regal splendour, the Samode Haveli is a hidden treasure buried amongst the bustling streets of old Jaipur.
Built 175 years ago as a residence for the rulers of Samode, this traditional Indian mansion is still occupied by their descendants who, luckily for us, have converted it into a superb luxury heritage hotel.
Its intricate Indo-Saracenic interior is echoed by the impeccable hospitality provided. The lavish guest rooms and suites, formerly royal apartments, are a blend of historic opulence and contemporary comfort, while the courtyards and balconies of these unique dwellings look out onto the haveli’s traditional pools, fountains and gardens.
We fell in love with the Samode’s colourful hand-painted mural walls and intricate frescoed interiors, and nowhere are these more evident than in its intimate dining hall. The restaurant serves a mixture of traditional Rajasthani and international flavours and enjoying a meditative afternoon tea in the regal veranda lounge or relaxing with a cocktail on a salas by the grand pool are equally indulgent treats.
Alongside all of its old world elegance, the Samode Haveli hasn’t forgotten the needs of the modern traveller and has a fitness centre and spa, complete with steam room and an array of treatments.
Samode’s location is ideal for morning walks through the Pink City, where you can lose yourself amidst the endless bazaars and attractions, whilst in the evenings you can enjoy delights such as traditional puppet shows and Rajasthani music and dance.
